Find Your Fire:
A Path Back to Self

A soul-centered reflection quiz to uncover your Core “C” of Self-Energy

We all get lost sometimes. Overwhelmed, reactive, closed off. In those moments, one word can guide us back to our center. In Internal Family Systems (IFS), these are called the 8 C’s of Self Energy: Compassion, Curiosity, Clarity, Calm, Courage, Confidence, Creativity, and Connection.

Each of us has a “Core Fire” — the one C that most naturally calls us home. This quiz is a gentle guide to help you find it.

Take a few minutes. Answer from the heart. There’s no scoring. Just reflection.

1. When you’re triggered or upset, what helps you begin to return to yourself?

2. Which quality do you admire most in others?

3. When you’re at your best, what are you like?

4. Imagine you’re sitting by a fire after a long day. What energy do you naturally bring to the flames?

Your Core Fire Might Be…

  • Mostly A’s: Curiosity — Your fire is the sacred question. You return to Self through wonder and exploration.

  • Mostly B’s: Calm — Your fire is stillness. You find your Self in silence, breath, and spacious presence.

  • Mostly C’s: Connection — Your fire is intimacy. Self-energy returns when you’re heart-to-heart with others.

  • Mostly D’s: Confidence — Your fire is assurance. You come home by standing tall in your quiet knowing.

  • Mostly E’s: Compassion — Your fire is tenderness. Self flows through you when your heart opens.

  • Mostly F’s: Clarity — Your fire is insight. You return when the fog lifts and truth becomes visible.

  • Mostly G’s: Courage — Your fire is action. You reclaim Self by stepping boldly into the unknown.

  • Mostly H’s: Creativity — Your fire is expression. You come alive through art, movement, and soul play.

Whichever Core Fire calls to you, it is sacred. You can tend it like a hearth. You can return to it when you’re lost. And you can offer it as medicine to others.

Let this become a part of your Path of Becoming.

What is your fire? And how will you tend it today?

Reflection prompts

each designed to help you deepen your relationship to that energy and discern which flame is most alive (or most needed) at this moment:

Compassion

  • When was the last time I truly offered kindness to myself — not as a reward, but as a right?
  • Can I soften the judgment I hold (toward myself or others) just 1%?
  • What part of me is still longing to be held in understanding?

Connection

  • Who or what helps me feel rooted and real?
  • When I’m alone, do I feel isolated… or do I feel in sacred company with myself?
  • What does it feel like to belong — in my own body, in community, in the world?

Clarity

  • What truth am I avoiding because I fear what it might ask of me?
  • What do I know deep down, even if I haven’t said it aloud yet?
  • What fog can I breathe through, if only for this moment?

Courage

  • What would I do if I knew I couldn’t fail — or if failure was part of the initiation?
  • What part of me is trembling but still willing to take the next step?
  • Where is fear trying to protect me from my own expansion?

Creativity

  • What wants to move through me — not for success, but for soul?
  • If I set down my “shoulds” and picked up a paintbrush, drum, pen, or garden spade — what might emerge?
  • Where in my life do I need more play, color, and expression?

Curiosity

  • What question is alive in me right now?
  • Can I explore what’s happening in me with wonder instead of judgment?
  • If I knew nothing at all about this situation, what might I discover?

Calm

  • What does stillness feel like in my nervous system — can I find it, even for a breath?
  • Can I be okay with not knowing, just for a moment?
  • What would it feel like to rest without guilt?

Confidence

  • Where have I already walked through fire and come out stronger?
  • What does it feel like to stand in my truth — not louder, but firmer?
  • What would it mean to trust that I am enough, even now?
